God I fucking hate the current state of the internet :3

Holy fuck the internet is just way too monopolized.

So I’ve been trying to set up an email server. Something that should be, relatively simple. And it is. But there’s one big roadblock doing it. COMPANIES!!!!

Every company is so scared that their users might get a couple of scaaaary spam emails that they basically just straight up block any new email servers, even if they do everything right.

I did everything right. Reverse DNS, DMARC, SPF, DKIM, all the shit needed for good modern email security and validation, I try sending emails to my own addresses at big providers (Gmail and Outlook), and they end up in the spam filter :3

Meanwhile, some other slightly less scummy providers, cough Protonmail cough accept my emails just fine.

(Note: Protonmail is not some amazing service like they claim they are, don’t take this as an endorsment, always encrypt your emails before you send, don’t trust a provider to do it for you)

In conclusion, don’t use Google, try not to use Microsoft, and uhhhhh, god I hope the internet becomes slightly less homogenous in future (it probably won’t, but a guy can dream.)
